The British folk revival in the 1960's saw a boom in Folk Clubs, which met in smoky rooms in pubs throughout the UK.
Many of the clubs spawned "house bands" of which the Boston Folk Orchestra was one, growing out of the the resident musicians and singers of Boston Folk Club.

Like many such bands, BFO formed special bonds, both between their changing membership, and the club members. They moved beyond the confines of the Folk Club, playing to wider audiences outside, not only in various Lincolnshire hostelries,  ("We don't really like folk, but you guys are great"), but also further afield in theatres and at festivals.

Having survived the sad loss of some members, but welcoming new ones along the way,  BFO have reached their half-century. Despite being dispersed to far-flung parts of the country, they reconvene annually alongside other Boston ex-pats for a charity festival in rural Buckinghamshire.

This special year they are returning to home soil, with a celebration in Blackfriars Theatre. The first half will feature solo spots from specially invited musicians and singers who were resident at Boston Folk Club when BFO were in their pomp, the room was packed, and the evening would finish with many a rousing chorus song!

The second half will be taken over by the Boston Folk Orchestra in it's latest incarnation. Original/early members Richard Birbeck (Vocals) , Richard Peel (Drums)  and Mark Addison (Bass)...and maybe others...  are joined by Kim and Phil Biggs, (Accordian and Mandola)  who were recruited following the passing of Graham Neish and Stephen (Spud) Murphy. Also joining them on stage are Mel Stopper (Banjo) and Jim Morley (Guitar)

And the rousing choruses... you betcha!

As a bonus, Boston Folk Club will be running a reunion session at 5pm in the Revue Bar before the concert, with music from many more performers and a chance for old friends to get reacquainted. All are welcome. “Come all ye!”

Proceeds will be divided between Blackfriars and  Boston's Butterfly Hospice

Blackfriars Theatre is run predominately by volunteers. If you would be interested in helping out please speak to our Box Office.

Thank you for your support and understanding. We hope you enjoy the show and encourage others to help Keep Theatre Live in Boston.

Blackfriars undoubtedly plays a very important role as Boston's centre for entertainment and the arts. It is home to two very successful local amateur dramatic and operatic groups, as well as hosting a varied program of professional stage productions.
